Scenario 5: United Nations Humanitarian Aid Operation

Objective

The objective is to provide a scenario that depicts collaboration by a loosely-coupled coalition of nations who supply humanitarian aid to a region-of-interest.

Description

Difficult climatic conditions in a region lead to a state of disaster being declared by the local government. Foreign nations offer assistance within a UN humanitarian aid programme, led by the UN. The military forces deployed include support helicopters, medical units, engineering capabilities and logistic support.

Aspects of Coalition Geospatial Support

The lead nation that commands the deployment of military forces will provide the central command for geospatial support operations. Supporting nations will have a variable amount of geospatial interoperability with this lead nation. There will be a significant amount of lead time in preparing for these operations, hence, adequate time to overcome any important interoperability problems. The operational tempo is low in the planning phase to moderate in the deployment phase.
