Elevation Surface Model (ESM)

Overview:

The Elevation Surface Model (ESM) is a multi-part standard that:

The diagram below illustrates the document relationships of this standard.

116-1, Elevation Surface Model (ESM) Standardized Profile

The Elevation Surface Model (ESM) establishes the data content model for elevation data according to the principles of a Data Content Model (ISO 19129 - Imagery, gridded and coverage data framework) for elevation, including the Grid or point coverage, TIN coverage + point set data types and the ESM Data dictionary (with metadata based on DMF – DGIWG Metadata Foundation). The ESM specification supports:

EXCLUDES Contour lines

116-1 SD1, Elevation Surface Model (ESM): UML model (zipped .eap, based on GML and GMLCOV)

This is the ESM implementation model for 116-1 expressed in UML (Unified Modeling Language). It is based on:

NOTE:The files are compressed in a zipped .EAP file (Enterprise Architect Project file)

116-2, Elevation Surface Model (ESM): GML Application Schema

This standard specifies the Application schema for ESM. It defines the process to derive ESM application schemas, expressed in GML (the Geography Markup Language defined by OGC), from the UML model and metadata defined in 116-1 SD1. it is based on:

EXCLUDES TIN (Triangular Irregular Networks)

116-2 SD1, Elevation Surface Model (ESM): GML schemas (zipped .xsd)

These are the ESM XML schemas associated to 116-2, expressed in GML (the Geography Markup Language defined by OGC)

NOTE:The files are compressed .XSD file (Xml Schema Definition file)

116-3-1, Elevation Surface Model (ESM) - Encoding Rules - Part 1: Core

These ESM Core Encoding Rules provide the common encoding rules that are recommended for ESM data and metadata. It MUST be used with:

This standard is dependent on:

EXCLUDES TIN (Triangular Irregular Networks)

116-3-2, Elevation Surface Model (ESM) - Encoding Rules - Part 2: GeoTIFF

These encoding rules support the generation and consumption of ESM GeoTIFF files, and MUST be used with Core Encoding Rules defined in 116-3-1

This standard is dependent on:

116-3-3, Elevation Surface Model (ESM) - Encoding Rules - Part 3: GMLJP2

These encoding rules support the generation and consumption of ESM GMLJP2 files; and define how to encode and embed georeferenced JPEG2000 metadata using Geography Markup Language (GML)

This standard is dependent on:

116-3-4, Elevation Surface Model (ESM) - Encoding Rules - Part 4: NATO Secondary Image Format (NSIF)

These encoding rules support the generation and consumption of ESM NSIF files (NATO Secondary Image Format), and MUST be used with Core Encoding Rules defined in 116-3-1

This standard is dependent on:
