GeoTIFF for GeoRef Imagery
Overview:
This standard:
- is for geospatial systems that generate or consume aerial or satellite imagery or gridded data
- is for raster files (digital images as a grid of pixels)
- specifies minimum requirements a GeoTIFF reader/driver must support to satisfy DGIWG needs
- Supports
- this standard’s previous version (2.1)
- georeferenced data (ground coordinates correspond to coordinates on a map or image)
- lossless file compression or JPEG compression and exchange as allowed by TIFF (Tagged Image File Format) files:
- 5-8 band (Each band is a flat matrix of square cell values. As multiple bands stack up, 3D elevation definition increases)
- YCbCr (extends colour representation options into brightness and two colour-difference, beyond restrictions of only Red Green Blue in RGB)
- optional TIFF_RSID and TIFF_UUID tags (Universal Unique Identifiers)
- metadata extensions that satisfy DGIWG’s minimum GeoTIFF requirements (see Warning paragraph, page iv)
