JPEG 2000 for GeoRef Imagery
Overview:
Standard 104
- is for geospatial systems that generate or consume aerial or satellite imagery or gridded data
- applies to raster files (digital images as a grid pixels)
This standard is based on OGC GMLJP2 1.0
Supports:
- georeferenced imagery (ground coordinates correspond to coordinates on a raster map or image)
- orthoimagery (remotely-sensed, geometrically-corrected to adjust for lens distortion, camera tilt, and topographical relief)
- elevation imagery (2.5D picture of terrain surface)
- JPEG 2000 (enables lossless or near-lossless image compression through DWT (Discrete Wavelet Transformation))
Excludes georectified imagery

- referenceable imagery (able to be saved as URL and pasted into an internet browser, document or email)
- georeferenced imagery (ground coordinates correspond to coordinates on a raster map or image)
- orthoimagery (remotely-sensed, geometrically-corrected to adjust for lens distortion, camera tilt, and topographical relief)
